Meanwhile, the Philistine, with his shield bearer in front of him, kept coming closer to David. (I Samuel:17:41)
David's encounter with Goliath is a real eye opener for those of us facing giants in our day to day life. First of all, David never considered Goliath as a giant and certainly didn't consider him as a giant who can't be slain. It was possible because of his daily walk with GOD which enabled him to see through the eyes of faith. David saw Goliath's mammoth appearance as a target that can't be easily missed. When Goliath started to come near him, all David could think of was that the target is getting bigger. He was never scared and the point of attack that he had identified that of Goliath's forehead is now within range. So as we read in I Samuel:17:48 & 49 "As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground". David defeated Goliath with a stone and a sling.
Anything that can be overwhelming in your life is a giant. It can be a financial situation, struggle with sin, loss of appetite for GOD, sickness etc. As the giants in our life keep getting bigger, let's not run away and hide. It's a chance for us to reach out and obtain victory. The bigger the problem becomes, the sooner the breakthrough is going to be. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego's deliverance happened immediately after the strength of the fire was raised seven fold. The dawn is the darkest before the day! So, be bold like David and reach into the bag of GOD's promises, take out His word, proclaim it over your life and His word is good enough to kill any kind of a giant.
