The Lord said to me, “Take a large scroll and write on it with an ordinary pen: Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz.” So I called in Uriah the priest and Zechariah son of Jeberekiah as reliable witnesses for me. Then I made love to the prophetess, and she conceived and gave birth to a son. And the Lord said to me, “Name him Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz. For before the boy knows how to say ‘My father’ or ‘My mother,’ the wealth of Damascus and the plunder of Samaria will be carried off by the king of Assyria.” (Isaiah:8:1-4)
Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz means quick to the plunder, swift to the spoil. Not an easy name to say it nor pronounce it for that matter. The name contains the prophecy that was about to be fulfilled sooner rather than later. Why the Lord should take such a route of naming a child after the prophecy instead of just prophesying through Isaiah? Because He wanted them to remember the prophecy every time they call the baby "Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz". Every time they call the baby with that name they are declaring the prophecy. They are speaking the word knowingly or unknowingly every time they do so. That's the reason the Lord instructed Isaiah to do such a thing. GOD wants us to declare the prophecies in our life like calling out a name for it to come to pass. Call out things that are not as though they are!!
When the Lord was leading the people of Israel out of Egypt through the wilderness, He didn't give them any instructions on how to survive the wilderness. He was constantly talking to them about the things that they had to do once they enter the promised land. In short, GOD was preparing them for the promised land and not for the wilderness. Israelites reaching the promised land is a given according to GOD, so He was talking to them all the time about it, but they had a tough time believing it. Are you going through a journey of wilderness on your own? Knowingly or unknowingly the journey that you are undertaking is preparing you for a life beyond the break through that you are looking for. The Lord may not be giving you the instructions in a stone tablet like He did for the Israelites but through the wilderness experience He is writing down the instructions in your heart and the learning in your mind as memories. Those instructions and your memory will help you live a victorious life in your promised land. By those instructions you will know how to live and by remembering the tough times that you endured will help you to be grateful to GOD all through the days of your life.
Blessings!
