Do Out of Love

When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. “Why this waste?” they asked. “This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor.” Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. (Matthew:26:8-10)

Here we see a woman anointing Jesus with precious oil that she had, which seems to be of very high value in the market as the disciples' reaction suggests. But, Jesus though had a different view of it and said that she had done a beautiful thing for Him. What's so beautiful about this? We know that "The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (I Samuel:16:7). Jesus knew that the woman's act was performed out of love! Not out of any religious motive or to glorify herself, but she did it out of pure love. Whatever we do for the Lord, it must originate out of love for Him and nothing else.

Jesus went on to say in verse 13 "Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.” Whatever we do out of love, it lasts forever! Love never fails. (I Corinthians:13:8) We are still talking, preaching and meditating this act of woman even after all these years because she performed an act out of love. When we serve the Lord out of love, it will last for eternity. Jesus also says in verse 12 "When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial". When you do things out of love, knowingly or unknowingly you are contributing in fulfilling the will of GOD. The woman didn't knew about the time of Jesus' death but yet her act of love symbolically demonstrated that the hour of death for Jesus is not long.

"And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. (Ephesians:3:17-19) The more we know and experience the love of GOD, the more our actions will germinate out of love.
