Pick Up the Right Fight

The officers shall say to the army: “Has anyone built a new house and not yet begun to live in it? Let him go home, or he may die in battle and someone else may begin to live in it. Has anyone planted a vineyard and not begun to enjoy it? Let him go home, or he may die in battle and someone else enjoy it. Has anyone become pledged to a woman and not married her? Let him go home, or he may die in battle and someone else marry her.” (Deuteronomy:20:5-7)

We often miss out on how good our GOD is even in Old Testament times. He is good all the time and was good from the beginning. We don't have an angry GOD looking down on us, waiting to punish us. If you have such an image of an angry GOD, please get rid of it right away. He is our loving Father from the beginning of times. Here in the above verses from Deuteronomy we see how He gives exemption to men from going to war on certain grounds. Men who have built a new house and yet to live, planted a vineyard and yet to enjoy it, pledged to a woman and yet to marry her. He understood the hearts of men just like a loving Father would. What the Lord was saying to these men was, "This battle is not yours to fight, go home and enjoy the blessings that I have given you". How wonderful!

In our lives too, there are certain battles that are not ours to fight. We indulge in some unwanted battles instead of being still in GOD's presence and letting Him take care of it. But there are times when we need to participate in battles and fight the forces of darkness in prayer. David fell because he stayed at home during the season of war. "In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joabout with the king’s men and the whole Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem".(II Samuel:11:1) Let's not be like David in this regard. We should never forget that we fight from victory and not for victory though. May the Lord guide you decide the battles that you ought to fight.

Blessings!
