Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you: “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules. (Matthew:15:6-9)
Each of us follow a tradition or a routine while doing various things in our lives. But when it comes to having a relationship with GOD, tradition or routine doesn't always work. It makes us look like robots to GOD. That doesn't mean we shouldn't have a designated quiet time with GOD daily. It's how you spend that time with GOD matters. Do we spend it doing the same thing like singing a couple of songs, reading the word for x number of minutes and finishing it off with prayer? No, that's wrong. That's us trying to fit GOD into our tradition. As Jesus says in the above verse it will lead us to nullify the effect of His Word in our lives.
GOD is not bound by traditions and certainly not predictable. While in His nature - He is the same, yesterday and today, the same cannot be said of His ways or how He likes to operate. That's why we need to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and have to be led by Him. It comes only by experience. We can read all about hearing from GOD and how to be lead by the Spirit from books written by renowned men of GOD, which is a great place to start. However, only by having an individual personal experience with Him daily will help us, to discern His voice and ways. There is no shortcut. How the Lord leads and interacts with someone varies from person to person. It's up to the individual to figure out by constantly pursuing His presence daily.
