“To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others: “‘We played the pipe for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’ For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.” (Matthew 11:16-19)
We are always at the center of criticism whatever we do, whenever we do and wherever we do. It's not just something that's common to a believer but to everyone that is alive or even dead. We get hurt when we listen to those criticism and especially when we know for sure some of them are dishonest and harsh. Take heart for Jesus too wasn't spared from negative criticism. In the above passage we see the criticism that was aimed towards Him and John the baptist. But neither of them reacted to it and tried to change their behavior to in order to please their critics and to get them on their side. Jesus continued doing what he did before - to hang around with sinners. Don't try to change your ways in order to please people who doesn't approve the right things that you do. We need not pay attention to criticism as long as we are doing the right things in GOD's sight.
Jesus ends this conversation by saying that 'wisdom is proved right by her deeds'. In someways it has got the 'a tree will be known by its fruit' ring to it. It doesn't matter what people might say about your ministry, job, household etc. It's the results that come out of them that matters. Is your ministry yielding fruits? Are you a blessing to others at your house and workplace manifesting the kingdom of GOD? Then you are doing just fine. Paul says in I Corinthians: 4:20 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power. That's an amazing truth. But I feel it's not often quoted as much as the verse Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Christianity is much more than just talking about salvation and eternal life. It's about power, RESULTS!! If we don't back up our sermons and messages with the demonstration of GOD's power in the form of signs and wonders, we are missing the whole point. It ain't right until we produce the results. May the Lord grant us that revelation and let His power be manifested in and through us.
Blessings!
