Go Solo when GOD says so

But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.” Then the Lord’s anger burned against Moses and he said, “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and he will be glad to see you. You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do. He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him. But take this staff in your hand so you can perform the signs with it.” (Exodus: 4:13-17)

GOD had trained Moses for 80 years for this moment. The burning bush and its events not only meant to turn around Moses' life but the individual life of every Israelite in Egypt. GOD knew Moses is ready, but the only problem is Moses didn't think so. He is a convicted felon back in Egypt and doesn't want to go back inspite of GOD giving him a crash course on "How to do miracles". It reminds me of a scene from the movie "Inception" when Saito is trying to recruit Cobb for a job. Cobb resists but Saito insists that he take "a leap of faith". Just like that Moses is required to take a leap of faith. Moses is a poor communicator and a stammerer but GOD says that He will put words in his mouth. Moses just wouldn't budge.

To get Moses on board, GOD decides to bring in Aaron, who is a talented speaker unlike Moses and he agrees to the deal. We see later, that this same Aaron led the Israelites to idol worship at one point and confronted Moses along with his sister about who is greater in their relationship with GOD. Though Aaron became the High priest and was a useful assistant to Moses, on the whole, if we ask this question, Was bringing in Aaron a success? The answer is certainly not a confident Yes.

When GOD calls us to do something alone, better do it alone even though we may feel unqualified, inexperienced or undeserving. He wouldn't ask us to do something without providing the resources and training. We may not realize it immediately but later we will understand. Moses was trained exclusively for this in Egypt and at the desert where he will be leading the multitudes but not Aaron. The One who calls us is faithful in seeing us get through to the end. He maybe gracious enough to allow us to have a talented sidekick, like Aaron, to get the job done but at the end we still may have regrets.

Nothing but the Blood

Three times a year all your men must appear before the Lord your God at the place he will choose: at the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the Festival of Weeks and the Festival of Tabernacles. No one should appear before the Lord empty-handed: Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way the Lord your God has blessed you. (Deuteronomy: 16:16,17)

No one should appear before the Lord empty-handed. It was during the Old Testament times so should we just ignore it now that we are living under the New covenant? Jesus said that he didn't come to abandon the Law but to fulfill it. He paved a way for us to meet God with something precious in our hands every time we seek him. It's nothing but the Blood of Jesus. We read in Hebrews 10:19-22 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God,let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Not only that Jesus is sitting at the right hand of God pleading our case 24x7 as we read in I John: 2:1&2. My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. Draw near to Him today knowing that all your past, present and future sins have been paid for and you are redeemed!

Nothing Less

When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home. “Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.” Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” (John 11:20-24)

Lazarus, a dear friend of Jesus fell sick and died. Jesus even after knowing that Lazarus was sick stayed away from him for he knew that this sickness will reveal the glory of God in a mighty way. In the above verses we see that Jesus was coming to meet the grieving sisters Martha and Mary. Martha runs out and meets Jesus and lets Him know that Lazarus would still be alive if He had come earlier, nevertheless she continues to say that God will give whatever Jesus asks. Sounds like good faith,eh? Read on. Jesus replies Your brother is coming back.

Martha as we read in Luke 10:38-42 is a worrier. She doesn't seem pretty excited when Jesus says that Lazarus will be back from the dead, instead talks about the last day's resurrection. The point we need to understand here is, Jesus on one hand is ready to bring back Lazarus whereas Martha on the other hand is willing to settle for something less, maybe a means by which she and her sister could survive without Lazarus. Martha said that God will give whatever Jesus asks which means it includes getting the life of Lazarus back. That's exactly what Jesus offered. But Martha just didn't seem to get it. She had a mentality, just like some of us have at times, to settle for something less than what God has to offer. Maybe, if Jesus had said I will ask God to keep filling your kitchen with provisions like Elijah did to the widow, she would have happily accepted. Jesus is offering to bring back his dead brother but all she is worried about is finding a way to survive without him. Let's not be like Martha or Abraham for that matter, decided to settle for something else, by having a child through a slave when God had promised Isaac through his wife. Or in Elijah's case, when he ran away from Jezebel and prayed that his life be taken away, that he may die. Ironically, Elijah wasn't supposed to die but to be taken away to heaven in a 'chariot of fire'. Thankfully, God sent an angel, strengthened Elijah and made sure he didn't settle down for anything less than what God had planned. What a loving Father we have as our God. Even when we sometimes try to settle for less like Martha, Abraham or Elijah, God doesn't allow us to. He sends down His word, an angel or by whatever means pulls us through to the finish line.

Dead Bones

He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”. I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.” (Ezekiel: 37:3)

"What kind of question is that Lord?" would have been the first thought in my mind if the question had been asked to me. "Heck, No!! These are dead bones and it won't live" I would have said. But not Ezekiel. His reply "Sovereign Lord, you alone know" is a way of him telling God that these bones may be dead but you alone have the final say on whether it will live or not. You are our Creator and you created this world out of nothing. So, whatever situation, be it dead or alive, God alone have the final say. After all, God can heal the half-dead, raise up the dead and bring back the dead and buried back to life!! What dead situation you are facing today or a dead promise you have buried? Take them to God, and prophecy over it. I can hear the sound of His wind rushing through to resurrect them back to life.
