Twice to Reassure

Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. (John:21:7)

Every appearance made by the resurrected Savior Jesus Christ to His disciples were significant. Every time He appeared to them it served as a reassurance to them that they were not alone all of a sudden. This above incident from John chapter 20 is very significant especially to the few fishermen who formed the core group of His disciples. That's because Jesus had just been crucified and has come back to life. Though He appeared to them after His resurrection, the condition of the disciples were not the same as before when Jesus was with them in flesh 24x7.

I am sure there was an air of uncertainty running through the minds of the disciples about their future, now that Jesus is not with them all the time. Does the resurrected Jesus has the same power when He was with them? That's one of the questions they would have asked themselves. To prove to them, that indeed He is the same even after resurrection, Jesus appeared to Peter and the other (fishermen) disciples just the same way He did it before. In Luke chapter 5 we read about how Peter and his men had toiled all night only to return empty handed. Jesus asked them to go back and cast their nets at the other side of the boat resulting in a catch of their life time. Jesus performed an exact replica of the miracle He did three and half years ago after His resurrection to remove any lingering doubts that the disciples might have regarding His ability and power.

Today, you may be someone who have encountered the miracle working power of the Lord in your past but for some reason haven't been experiencing it lately. This message is for you. Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. If He had done it once before, He will do it again. You can be rest assured of that. Keep trusting Him.

Blessings!
