Ever felt blessed?

But blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) are your eyes because they do see, and your ears because they do hear. Truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous men [men who were upright and in right standing with God] yearned to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it. (Matthew:13:16&17)

The people who lived during the time of Jesus including the disciples would have been in awe of the Old Testament prophets like Moses, Abraham etc. To them Jesus says that they are more blessed than the prophets who lived before them because of what they have been seeing and hearing. The Son of GOD walking among them in the power of the Holy Spirit demonstrating and establishing the kingdom of GOD on earth. The prophets who prophesied the coming of the Messiah and His kingdom, longed to see that day but didn't.

The disciples having heard about Moses like the account we read in Deuteronomy:34:10-12 "Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face, who did all those signs and wonders the Lord sent him to do in Egypt—to Pharaoh and to all his officials and to his whole land. For no one has ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in the sight of all Israel" would have been taken aback hearing the statement of Jesus concerning them that they are more blessed. Not just the disciples, we too are often negligent of the privileges that we enjoy today which wasn't available to the generation before us. We have the privilege of taking the gospel to the ends of the earth through technology which wasn't available in the Biblical times or a few generations before us.

Jesus rightly pointed out the privileges that we have as children of GOD which are better than the birds of the air and the lilies of the field. The word "Blessed" gets translated as "happy, fortunate and to be envied" and it won't be case if we are not aware of how blessed we are. Instead of always looking at the negative things around us, let's take time to ponder over the good things in our life and ask the Lord to help us realize how blessed we are. Don't give the feeling of "being blessed" a rest!

Blessings!
